Words from the man I still can call my teacher and my friend even though he is now settled in B.C. He was a member of the M.H.R.E.B. for close to 25 years, past-president, chairman of many committees, director-at-large with O.R.E.A., fund-raiser, and member of many committees in the public sector. He, too, was taught by one of the greats, Balys Kronas.
I am but one of the many who crossed his path and became the beneficiary of his love of real estate, his wit, the concise way he looked at problems, his desire to be the best he could be. Barry set an example wherever he went.
The day I met Barry Kelly is a day that I will never forget, I was changing careers and had talked to many different people on what to pursue. I met Barry at his new office one sunny early spring afternoon.
I did not know who he was or what I was expected to know, I had been a professional and service provider all of my life, I talked and he listened; one of his greatest strengths. He answered my questions realizing that this was to be a big step in my life.
On leaving I knew that whatever I chose, here was a man from whom I wanted to learn. That day I made the decision to became a real estate professional.
Over the time, which has passed, I reflect on that sunny day and what it has done for me and the people around me. He taught uncompromising morals and ethical standards, to be enthusiastic, and to believe that “you get what you give in life,” and “it comes back to you in spades”.
In closing, I feel that on this, the 75th Anniversary of M.H.R.E.B., Barry Kelly should be remembered: for his service; for setting a good example for all to see; for his belief in the education of realtors; and for passing along the banner and pride in the profession we love.

Barry has been a strong and active contributor to the business
of OREA. He chaired a committee that successfully forged a universal
agreement of purchase and sale for use by all 48 member real
estate boards of Ontario. He also chaired a task force charged
with improving the disciplinary procedures for out members.
And he is chaired and been a member of several other association
committees.
In carrying out his duties as a director and member of the
Executive Committee of OREA, Barry has proven to be a highly
intelligent, resourceful and dependable team player. In addition
to his sharp mind, Barry has also brought to the committee
table a logical and focused approach toward accomplishing
the task at hand. Importantly, he has also brought a keen
sense of humour.

I am saddened to find myself having to write this letter. As
an employee of the Metropolitan Hamilton Real Estate for almost
25 years, I have spent many of those years working with Barry
as a volunteer member. Many of the volunteers do a very good
job, some not so good a job, and a very elite few do an exceptional
job by contributing exorbitant amounts of time, energy and
knowledge for the benefit of the entire real estate profession.
Barry Kelly is one of those elite few who has proven time
and time again that caring, dedicated, honest and forthright

and in the past few years on the entire real estate community

Barry is well liked and respected throughout the Southern

Council (IEC) in Hamilton-Wentworth for 13 years, I had an
opportunity to work with many outstanding citizens and generous
volunteers like Barry Kelly. As President of the Advertising
and Sales Club of Hamilton, Barry initiated a partnership
between his Club and the IEC, which lasted for over 10 years.
He served continuously as an advisory committee member with
this partnership, providing excellent leadership and encouragement
for other volunteers and staff. Barry was a “role model”
for other members of the business community, which gave our
partnership projects instant credibility with other business
leaders and made it easier for us to recruit additional volunteers.
As a result of Barry’s capable leadership and generous
donation of time to the IEC’s partnership activities,
he was publicly presented with one of our first Community-Based
Learning Awards. He was also recognized as one of our “Champion”
